International Workshop on Energy, Economy and Environment Modeling

12 October 2012 @ Gulbenkian Foundation

The envisioning of sustainable futures is of outmost importance for policy makers, private investors, and inspired consumers. Complexity and uncertainty play a major role in exercises aimed at developing scenarios and projections for the future. CENSE research center has been working on the design and quantification of sustainable futures, namely applying different modelling techniques. The International Workshop on Economy, Energy and Environment Modelling is an opportunity to join CENSE researchers and colleagues from other institutions to discuss the issues underlying the building of scenarios for sustainable futures.

The exchange of ideas between Portuguese participants of the European Council for an Energy Efficient Economy Summer Study 2009 led to the creation of PCEEE. 2010 edition allowed the knowledge exchange between several promoters of energetic efficiency in Portugal: researchers, central and regional administration bodies, NGO's, energy agencies, enterprises and other. In this conference we shared case studies developed in the country, particularly technology development, good practices, incentives, among others.

Making Cense of Biodiversity and Human Well-Being

13 October 2010 @ FCT/UNL, Portugal.

Biodiversiy and ecosystem services are of paramount interest among the CENSE scientific topics and it seems natural to promote this subject on the second "Making CENSE of" Seminar. The seminar will focus on the topic of "Biodiversity and Human Well-Being", including a guest lecture by Dr. Jeff McNeely and a round table with an invited panel addressing the challenges of developing "A roadmap for biodiversity science & policy".

Making CENSE of Sustainable Consumption

30 October 2009 @ FCT/UNL, Portugal.
