CENSE PhD Student Spotlight: Katherine Mahoney

CENSE PHD STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Katherine Mahoney

1. Tell us about yourself

Originally I am from the UK but I spent most of my childhood in Portugal and then went back to England to complete my BSc. After my BSc I took some time off to travel, spending time in Tenerife and Australia and then completed my MSc, I also spent some time living in Italy. These days I really enjoy spending time outdoors and going for nature walks, I also love to read fiction and always have a book on the go.  I confess that Harry Potter is a big favourite!

2. What are you researching?

Essentially, I am researching the alignment (or misalignment) of the carbon neutrality agenda with the mitigation of energy poverty in Portugal.

3. What impact on society would you like your research to have?

Ideally I would like the research to contribute to the realization of a just and equitable energy transition in Portugal.

4. If you could pick one thing to change in the world, what would it be and why?

I think it would be a better world if we all had more tolerance and understanding of one another, for various reasons these days there is a lot of polarity and I think we forget that underneath all our differences we have a lot in common.
