João has PhD in Climate Change and Sustainable Development Policies - Sustainable Energy Systems from Universidade Nova de Lisboa and Universidade de Lisboa.

He currently works on the assessment of electricity consumption profiles, drivers of electricity consumption and fuel poverty identification in the residential sector by using smart meters data analysis combined with socio economic details, buildings and equipment characteristics from dedicated door to door surveys.

He has worked in the EU FP7 project - INSMART (Integrative Smart City Planning) (2013-2016) and on on COMET - Integrated infrastructure for CO2 transport and storage in the west MEdiTerranean (2010 – 2013). He has also worked on several national projects (e.g. RNBC2050, PNAC) mainly regarding projections of energy services demands for Portugal and end-use energy efficiency.

He has a MSc in Environmental Engineering on White Certificates - Analysis and Contributes for Portugal. He has a BSc in Environmental Engineering from the FCT-UNL.
