Alexandra Fonseca

Alexandra Fonseca is a researcher at the Geographic Information Unit/Portuguese Territorial Development Agency (DGT). She is focusing her research on Volunteered Geographic Information in relation to Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI) and other application areas, among other fields.
She has a PhD in Environmental Engineering (1998) at the New University of Lisbon (FCT/UNL), a MSc in Hydraulics and Water Resources (1991) at the Technical University of Lisbon (IST/UTL) and a BSc in Environmental Engineering (1985) at FCT/UNL.
She is delegate in GEO Architecture and Data Committee (GEO-ADC) and in Shared Environmental Information System (SEIS) task force. She has been part of the INSPIRE Expert Group (2001-2007).
She has been involved for several years in research projects that explore ICT for public participation in environmental processes, SDI, environmental collaborative monitoring networks, geo-referenced multisensory learning, spatial multimedia, geovisualisation/interfaces to environmental data. She was actively involved in the development team of the Portuguese National Spatial Data Infrastructure (SNIG) from 1994 to 1999.
